What is DMG file?
.DMG is a disk image format used by Apple's Mac OS X operating system. It can be opened on most modern versions of Mac OS X, as well as Windows 7 or later, Linux with the appropriate software installed, and FreeBSD with the appropriate software installed. A .DMG file can be compressed with Apple's "sparse bundle" format to save space and reduce the time it takes to transfer files over a network connection. A DMG file will typically contain one or more files that are stored in an HFS+ file system inside the DMG container. A DMG file does not have any specific executable code inside of it but may utilize other parts of Mac OS X to function properly.
