What is WIM file?
A Windows Imaging file is a file format used by Microsoft Windows. It is derived from the older .BMP file format, which can contain any type of image including Bitmap images, which are stored as separate files. A WIM file is a subset of this Windows Imaging File format. It's the native format for Windows Image Acquisition (Windows Image Capture), which is used to access images captured by digital cameras or other devices that are connected to your computer via USB or Firewire ports. This allows you to open and save images directly from these cameras/devices using this native WIM file format without the need for additional software.
