What is WSP file?
The WSP file extension is a Microsoft document type that can be opened in Microsoft Word. It's used to store SharePoint Solution Packages created by third-party software vendors. The WSP file extension is the most common file extension for this kind of document. There are six possible extensions that can be used, however, they are not always interchangeable. For example, .WPS is different than .WPS1 or .WSP2. If you open up the file using Microsoft Word and view the properties of the file, you will see that it is a Open XML File with Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) Document Type Definition (DTD).
