CD File Type
A CD file is a type of computer file that contains data that can be read by computers and various other devices. Computer files must use the .cd extension when they are saved on a CD. The file type is reserved for computer-readable media and not just for CDs. The .CD extension is a one-byte ASCII character, which means it can only have a number 0 through 255 or the underscore character (_). This extension has been used since at least December 1980. In 1991, this file was renamed to .dia in order to avoid confusion with spreadsheets (.DS) or database (.DB).
