What is VPK file?
VPK files are used by Valve Corporation to store compressed data files. It is a VPK file extension that has been used for decades now. The compression algorithm used here is very efficient because it uses a lot of CPU power to generate the VPK file. VPK files are typically made up of individual models, textures, sounds, animations or entire games that have been compressed using Valve's proprietary compression format. The VPK file extension has become very popular with the release of Half-Life 2 and Counter-Strike: Source which were released in 2004 and 2004 respectively.
