What is PFX file?
The PFX file is an encrypted file format that can be used in place of a PSE in some certificate fields. PKCS 12 Certificate File is a key component in the certificate chain. It uses smart cards to store information about certificates and has minor differences from the PFX files. PKCS12 was developed by Microsoft Corporation for use on its Windows operating system and can also be used on Mac OS X and Linux, where it uses XML Encryption to protect data such as certificates.
