What is MOD file?


The MOD file extension is a file type used in the Amiga computer system to store music. The file format was also used in some other platforms, like Atari ST and Commodore 64, but it has mostly been replaced with MP3. The MOD file extension stands for Music Module File. This is an audio format that was developed by Mark Morgan of Lucasfilm Games (which later became Skywalker Sound). The first release of MODs was made on April 21st, 1987; since then, they have been released continuously by various groups and companies. A new release is made every 6 months to update the song catalogues. MOD files can be opened using DOSBox or Amiga Forever or Virtual Amiga Graphics (VAEmu)
