The CAB file is a Windows Cabinet file which is used to store the documents and data of Microsoft's Cabinet software program. The CAB file extension is most commonly associated with Microsoft's Cabinet software program, but the cabinet format was actually created by Lotus Development Corporation in 1984. It was designed for use on IBM mainframes running DOS operating systems.
