What is AU file?
Audio files can be opened with AU file extension. It is a file format that is widely used by audio software to store digital audio data. This format is an open standard, but other software are not required to support it. The Audio File Format was created in 1982 by Daniel J. Reed, who founded Audiotex, Inc. Audiotex published Audiotex specification in 1984 and the first Audio File Format was released in 1985. This specification has been updated several times since then, including Audiotex 2 specification in 1989 and Audiotex 3 specification in 1995.
